The Organization

Pierre Brunet Shipping Ltd is a company based in Port-Vila starting cargo shipping activities both locally and internationally in Oceania, as well as salvation and sea assistance missions in international waters.

Position Overview:

The Bosun, or Boatswain, is the senior member of the deck crew, responsible for the direct supervision of all deck operations and personnel. The Bosun ensures that the deck crew performs maintenance tasks, cargo operations, and safety drills efficiently and according to the ship’s standards and maritime regulations. The Bosun actively participates in all deck maintenance work and assists with the loading and unloading of cargo, ensuring that all tasks are executed safely and efficiently. This position requires close collaboration with officers, particularly the Chief Mate, to coordinate deck activities and ensure the smooth running of daily operations. The Bosun is expected to lead by example, guiding and mentoring junior crew members while ensuring that safety and operational standards are consistently met. Strong leadership, technical skills, and hands-on involvement are essential for this role.

Key Responsibilities:

• Supervise and lead the deck crew in all operations, including maintenance, repairs, and general upkeep of the ship’s deck, rigging, and safety equipment.
• Actively participate in the maintenance and repair of deck equipment and systems, including winches, cranes, and lifeboats.
• Actively participate in the cargo handling.
• Assist in cargo operations, ensuring safe and efficient loading, unloading, and securing of cargo, and maintain the ship’s stability during these operations.
• Assisting the super cargo and commercial team in checking the cargo during delivery and redelivery phases.
• Organize and conduct regular safety drills with the deck crew, including fire, lifeboat, and emergency procedures.
• Perform regular inspections of the deck and report any issues or repairs needed to the Chief Mate.
• Ensure that all safety equipment and procedures are followed and maintained according to company and regulatory standards.
• Assist in mooring and unmooring operations, ensuring the vessel is securely docked.
• Provide training and guidance to junior deckhands to develop their skills and knowledge.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Extensive experience in deck operations, including maintenance, cargo handling, and safety procedures.
• Strong leadership skills, with the ability to manage and motivate a team.
• Good knowledge of deck machinery, rigging, and safety equipment.
• Ability to work independently and in collaboration with senior officers.
• Physically fit and capable of performing demanding tasks in challenging conditions.

General Duties:

• The Bosun is required to perform any additional tasks assigned by the Chief Mate or Captain.
