The Organization

Pierre Brunet Shipping Ltd is a company based in Port-Vila starting cargo shipping activities both locally and internationally in Oceania, as well as salvation and sea assistance missions in international waters.

 

Position Overview:

The Docker is responsible for efficiently and safely handling cargo at the company’s dock and aboard vessels. This includes operating forklifts and other loading equipment, securing cargo during ship loading and unloading, and ensuring the accurate reception and storage of goods at the dock. The Docker also works closely with the commercial team to verify cargo upon arrival and may be required to join the crew on vessels during voyages to participate in cargo operations at different ports of call. A key aspect of the Docker’s role is to ensure that all operations are carried out with the utmost attention to safety and efficiency, maintaining the smooth flow of goods through the supply chain.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Safely operate forklifts and other heavy equipment to load, unload, and move cargo.
  • Contribute to ship loading and unloading operations, ensuring all cargo is secured and handled properly to avoid damage or accidents.
  • Assist in the reception, verification, and storage of cargo at the company’s dock, working closely with the commercial team to ensure the accuracy of deliveries.
  • Participate in the securing and stowing of cargo aboard vessels to maintain ship stability and prevent shifting during transit.
  • Support cargo handling operations during port calls when required to sail with the vessel, ensuring efficient and safe loading/unloading.
  • Ensure all cargo operations comply with company safety protocols and maritime regulations.
  • Perform routine maintenance on dock equipment and report any issues to supervisors.
  • Enforce safety and conduct rules with clients at the dock, ensuring compliance with company policies.
  • Manage access control at the gate, ensuring only authorized personnel and vehicles enter the dock area.
  • Participate in safety drills and training to stay up to date on best practices in cargo handling and safety procedures.

 

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proven experience as a Docker or in a similar role involving cargo handling and forklift operation.
  • Forklift certification and demonstrated ability to operate loading equipment safely.
  • Strong understanding of cargo securing techniques and maritime safety standards.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure, meeting tight deadlines while maintaining safety standards.
  • Physically fit and capable of handling heavy loads and performing manual tasks.
  • Flexibility to travel and work aboard vessels when required, including during port operations.

 

GENERAL DUTIES

  • The Docker must be ready to perform any additional tasks as assigned by the dock supervisor or vessel officers.
