The Organization

Pierre Brunet Shipping Ltd is a company based in Port-Vila starting cargo shipping activities both locally and internationally in Oceania, as well as salvation and sea assistance missions in international waters.

 

Position Overview:

The oiler plays a critical role in the efficient and safe operation of the ship’s mechanical systems. Collaborating closely with the Chief Mechanic and occasionally a second engineer, the Oiler is responsible for assisting in the maintenance, repair, and operation of all mechanical and engineering equipment on board the 50-meter ship.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Assist in Engine Room Operations:
    • Collaborate with the Chief Mechanic to ensure the proper functioning of engines, generators, propulsion systems, and auxiliary equipment.
    • Assist in the operation of machinery during navigation, docking, and other ship movements.
  2. Maintenance and Repairs:
    • Participate in the regular maintenance and inspection of mechanical systems and equipment, adhering to manufacturer guidelines and maritime regulations.
    • Assist in troubleshooting and resolving technical issues and breakdowns to minimize downtime.
  3. Safety and Compliance:
    • Follow and enforce strict safety protocols and procedures in the engine room to ensure the safety of the crew and the vessel.
    • Maintain a thorough understanding of and compliance with all relevant maritime regulations.
  4. Watchkeeping and Reporting:
    • Share watchkeeping responsibilities with the Chief Mechanic, monitoring machinery performance and responding to alarms or irregularities.
    • Maintain accurate records and reports of maintenance activities, equipment status, and operational conditions.
  5. Training and Collaboration:
    • Collaborate closely with the Chief Mechanic to coordinate maintenance schedules and prioritize repairs.
  6. Additional Duties:
    • Be flexible and adaptable to assist in other shipboard duties, including deck operations, when required and as directed by the ship’s command or management.

 

Selection Criteria and Skills

-mechanic embedded machine system advanced skills

-in-depth knowledge of on-board mechanical systems and troubleshooting

-qualification Watch Engineer (STCW III/5) compulsory

-minimum of 5 years of experience in the position
