THE ORGANISATION

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Cook is responsible for preparing nutritious and balanced meals for the crew and passengers, maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the galley, and ensuring that all dietary needs are met. As the primary provider of food on board, the Cook plays a vital role in enhancing the experience of passengers, representing the company’s standards of hospitality and professionalism. In addition to culinary duties, the Cook may also be required to assist in non-cooking operations, such as participating in cargo loading and unloading and general deck maintenance tasks. This position requires flexibility, a commitment to quality, and a strong sense of teamwork, as the Cook is expected to uphold the company’s reputation while ensuring the crew and passengers are well-fed and satisfied.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare and serve meals for the crew and passengers according to schedule, considering any dietary restrictions or preferences.
  • Ensure that meals served to passengers are of high quality, representing the company’s standards for hospitality.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in the galley, adhering strictly to hygiene and food safety regulations.
  • Prepare food provision in accordance with budget for seatime.
  • Manage food inventory, monitor stock levels, and order supplies in a timely manner to avoid shortages.
  • Ensure proper waste management in the galley area, following environmental and safety standards.
  • Able to participate in cargo loading and unloading operations when required, ensuring efficient use of time and resources.
  • Assist in general deck maintenance tasks, such as cleaning or minor repairs, as needed by officers.
  • Participate in safety drills, including fire, emergency evacuation, and lifeboat drills.
  • Ensure that galley equipment is well-maintained, operational, and safe at all times.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proven experience as a Cook, with experience in preparing meals for both crew and passengers in a maritime or similar environment.
  • Strong knowledge of food safety, hygiene practices, and dietary needs.
  • Flexibility and willingness to assist in non-cooking tasks such as deck maintenance and cargo operations.
  • Ability to maintain high standards of meal preparation and cleanliness, ensuring that passengers’ meals reflect the company’s commitment to quality.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • STCW certification and previous experience in a maritime or remote environment is a plus.

GENERAL DUTIES

  • The Cook must be prepared to undertake any additional tasks as assigned by the Captain or senior officers, including responsibilities beyond the galley.
