The Organization

Pierre Brunet Shipping Ltd is a company based in Port-Vila starting cargo shipping activities both locally and internationally in Oceania, as well as salvation and sea assistance missions in international waters.

Position Overview:

The Able Seaman (AB) is an experienced deckhand responsible for assisting in all deck operations, including maintenance, cargo handling, and safety procedures. The AB plays a critical role in supporting the Bosun and officers with the smooth functioning of the vessel’s operations. This position involves performing general maintenance tasks, participating in mooring and unmooring operations, and assisting in the loading and securing of cargo. The AB must also actively participate in safety drills and be familiar with emergency procedures. This role requires hands-on involvement in all aspects of deck work, including upkeep of equipment, general repairs, and ensuring the vessel complies with safety and operational standards. Physical endurance and the ability to follow orders and work as part of a team are essential in this role.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform general maintenance tasks, including painting, cleaning, and repairing deck areas.
• Assist in cargo operations, including loading, unloading, and securing cargo under the supervision of the Bosun and officers.
• Participate in mooring and unmooring operations, handling lines and securing the vessel at port.
• Perform lookout duties while underway and assist in navigational operations as required.
• Actively participate in all safety drills, including fire, lifeboat, and emergency procedures.
• Assist with the maintenance and inspection of deck machinery and equipment, ensuring all are in good working order.
• Ensure compliance with safety protocols and procedures, reporting any hazards or malfunctions to the Bosun or officers.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Basic knowledge of deck maintenance and operations, with experience in painting, rigging, and cargo handling.
• Ability to follow orders and work under the supervision of the Bosun and senior officers.
• Physically fit and capable of performing demanding manual tasks in various weather conditions.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills.
• STCW certification and experience as an AB or similar role on maritime vessels.

 General Duties:

• The Able Seaman must be ready to perform any additional tasks as assigned by the Bosun, Chief Mate, or Captain.
