HELPR-1 – Galley Assistant

SUMMARY
The responsibility of the Galley Assistant is to provide outstanding service, supporting
the Chef in the areas of food handling; food preparation; hygiene and cleanliness; and all
galley operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Cleaning and washing of all dishes.
· Ensure galley cleaning and hygiene maintenance is maintained.
· Preparation of condiments and accompaniments.
· Preparation of salads and platters.
· Assistance with food preparation as directed.
· Communicate daily with the Chefs to ensure all dietary requirements are catered for.
· Maintain good operational and organisational skills to adhere to galley
operations,resulting in good time management.
· Maintain appropriately stocked, clean and well organised dry stores, fridges, cool
roomand freezer.
· Implement and maintain an effective stock rotation program
· Maintain food safety, galley cleanliness and hygiene at all times.
· Ensure waste is kept to a minimum.
· Ensure galley equipment is cared for and maintained.
· Provide support and training to joining and training crew.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
· Required to undertake other duties as reasonably directed by the Master.
· Required to maintain the highest standards of behaviour and discipline.
· Required to work as part of a high performing crew.
· Participation in drills as required by Statutory Regulation and undertake
othershipboard/shoreside training as required by the Company.
· Attend crew meetings.

CERTIFICATES AND QUALIFICATIONS
· Food Handlers Certificate
· First Aid Certificate
· CPR

FOOD AND ACCOMMODATION
Food and accommodation is provided free of charge whilst aboard the vessels.
As per the Navigation Act, it is the responsibility of all crew to keep crew quarters clean
and presentable at all times. Quarters will be inspected periodically by the Master.
Shared Mess room and Laundry is provided on board
